8 Companies With The Best Adoption Benefits

These companies have created an Adoption-Friendly Workplace for families.

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption publishes an annual report on the 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces. This list includes companies of every size and industry that support adoptive families. These companies have created an Adoption-Friendly Workplace to make adoption a supported option for every working family.

In 2016, the 100 featured workplaces gave an average of $8,000 toward financial reimbursement of adoption expenses to their employees, five weeks in paid leave, unpaid leave, and support for foster parents.

Outside of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption’s published list, which only includes companies who have completed their survey, many other small businesses to large enterprises make adoption support core to their benefits packages. Yet, less than half of employers in the United States offer adoption benefits. Here are some of the standout companies in their respective industries.

Ferring Pharmaceuticals
1. Ferring Pharmaceuticals

Ferring’s slogan is “People come first at Ferring” and it bodes true through their exceptional adoption benefits. The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption awarded the company first place in 2016 as the most Adoption-Friendly Workplace. Ferring gives $25,000 in financial support and 5.5 weeks of paid leave.

2. Citizens Bank

Citizens Bank was awarded second place by Dave Thomas in 2016. They give over $23,000 in financial support and one week of paid leave for all employees who adopt. As a large financial institution, they stand out among their peers for their Adoption-Friendly Workplace benefits.

3. Snapchat

Snapchat stands out among large tech platforms for their generous adoption benefits. They are a newcomer to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption’s Adoption-Friendly Workplace List. This year they tied for 23rd place. They give a maximum financial assistance or adoption reimbursement package to all employees, as well as 12 weeks paid adoption leave!

Barilla America, Inc.
4. Barilla America, Inc.

Barilla America, Inc. has been an Italian food company since 1872. 120 Barilla products are sold in the world every second. They recognize the impact of making adoption accessible to all of their employees and implement such measures through their adoption benefits. They offer up to $16,000 in assistance or reimbursement of adoption expenses, as well as two weeks paid leave for adoption. They were ranked 5th place this year by DTFA.

Netflix has received a great deal of press for their parental leave policy. They give their full-time employees the ability to take up to a year of paid leave after the birth or adoption of a child.

Trustify
6. Trustify

Etsy has been a leader in late-stage technology company employee benefits. They currently offer 26 weeks paid parental leave for birth or adoption, which can be taken over the first two years of birth or placement.

HHHunt
9. HHHunt

HHHunt is a real estate developer in the Mid-Atlantic U.S. In addition to offering their employees four weeks of paid leave, the builder provides $7,500 in financial assistance to adoptive families. CEO, Harry H. Hunt IV was adopted and believes in the importance of offering adoption benefits to his team.
