Robby Gilbert, an assistant high school football coach had a surprise reunion with his birth mom at half time. After having lost his adoptive mother a year prior, he wanted to reconnect with his birth mom. He was planning to visit her a couple of weeks after their initial phone call but his wife wanted to surprise him by bringing her to the game. Both were crying as the reunion took place. Robby also met a younger brother and sister.

Searching and reuniting is often vital for some adoptees. Though they love their adoptive families, finding birth parents can be both important for the adoptee and birth parents. Some reunion processes can take time on both sides, depending on the information they have, the agency’s policies, the state in which the adoption took place, and whether the adoption was open or closed. But no matter how long it has been, a reunion is often welcomed by both parties.
