Vaughn was born with first degree prematurity in October 2015. He has been diagnosed with background retinopathy and retinal vessel changes, right-sided cryptorchidism and hernia, and delayed development. A diagnosis of hydrocephalus has been rejected through computer imaging. While some of his medical reports state that Vaughn is blind in both eyes, other portions note that he tracks with his eyes. He navigates his surroundings, finds and reaches for toys and plays with them for long periods of time, showing a preference for brightly colored objects. Vaughn sits independently, stands with support, moves along the floor by rolling and is creatively able to get himself down from the couch or out of a seated walker without assistance. He makes sounds and some sound combinations but does not yet vocalize words. Vaughn is a generally calm little boy, but may get irritable, restless, and sad from time to time with no discernible reason or during changes in routine or removal from his comfort zone. He enjoys the company of other children and tries to interact with them. Vaughn recognizes familiar adults, laughs at jokes and seeks physical closeness. He eats and sleeps well. Vaughn is a determined boy who does not easily give up when he wants something. Unfortunately, he is not currently receiving the services required to overcome his delays. Sweet Vaughn needs these therapies as well as the consistency, individualized attention, and affection of a loving family to thrive.
