Sisters Aida and Anisa were born in February 2010 and January 2009, respectively. They lived with their family of origin until August 2019 and currently reside in a group home. The girls are healthy, aside from Aida’s anemia and Type 1 diabetes which are being treated, and typically developing. Aida’s views of adoption are ambivalent and currently negative; however, Anisa hopes for a family and is willing to be adopted even without Aida. As such social services has decided to allow for Anisa to be adopted as a single child if an interested family comes forward. Update August 2022: AIDA continues to be in general good health with appropriate medical care for her anemia and diabetes. Sadly, her motivation for academic achievement is poor and she continues to work on a first grade level. At the moment, Aida has a romantic relationship with a teenaged boy. Unless closely supervised, Aida will break the rules and engage in risky behaviors, including delinquent ones. Aida wants to stand out and be noticed through social validation and resists guidance from adults. Aida’s choices are impulsive and chaotic, lacking critical thinking and adherence to instructions. She often runs away from the group home, is known to lie and manipulate, and is at risk for early pregnancy. Aida enjoys walking around the town with peers. ANISA is an energetic teen who functions well in the group home, despite the loss of her mother and a history of multiple placements. She is described as honest and sincere in her efforts to curb her impulsivity in order to make more conscious choices and follow rules and boundaries. Academically, noticeable gaps persist, but Anisa works with a resource teacher to overcome them. Anisa likes to draw, watch TV, and listen to music. She is in a romantic relationship with a teen boy and feels safe in that partnership. April 2022: AIDA is a 5th grade student who regularly attends her classes and shows the necessary attention and memory to learn. Nonetheless, she has noticeable academic gaps. Aida is well-spoken and shares her opinions. She enjoys succeeding but is not afraid to try something new at which she may fail. She is curious about various matters and diligently completes household tasks assigned to her. There is evidence that Aida had early sexual experiences which were inappropriate and harmful for her. Consequently, she needs consistent help in following certain rules of the accepted decorum. Energetic and resourceful ANISA attends 6th grade where her skills and knowledge do not meet the requirements of the curriculum. She communicates easily and is able to express her emotions. Anisa likes to paint, watch movies, and listen to music. Like her sister, Anisa was exposed to inappropriate and damaging sexual experiences at a young age. She is able to discuss these matters and distinguish between acceptable and correct behaviors and the opposite. Both girls had a positive view on adoption but were disappointed when a family that had applied to adopt them ended the process prior to personal meetings.
