FAWKES from European Union

Fawkes was born in January 2013 and has Down syndrome. His congenital cleft palate, heart defect and hydrocephalus have all been surgically addressed. Fawkes’ development is delayed. Fawkes walks and stands with support but scoots on the floor as his main mode of getting around. He is nonverbal and does not initiate interactions or activities although he responds positively to playful contact with an adult. Fawkes often injures his eyes in auto-aggressive behaviors and wears gloves to reduce the frequency of such incidents. He is not yet potty trained and needs assistance with all tasks of daily living. He works with a multi-disciplinary team of teachers and therapists to provide academic and other interventions. Fawkes likes listening to music, watching cartoons, taking showers, and being outdoors. He enjoys cuddles and attention from his caregivers who consider him a lovable and kindhearted child.
