Timon was born prematurely in August 2018 with a congenital craniofacial anomaly – specifically, a cleft of the hard and soft palates and a cleft lip which has been surgically closed. Timon has been in state care since birth. His development is delayed. Update January 2022: At the end of 2021, Timon was moved from a large orphanage to a smaller group home. He has adjusted well to his new surroundings. The staff at the group home report that Timon enjoys being around other children and is kind and affectionate. He will soon begin accessing a variety of interventions and it is expected that he will make developmental progress with these additional resources. 2021: Timon is a tearful child who is not well adapted to orphanage life. He sits unassisted, stands with support, and takes steps when held by the hands. He is fed by spoon and cup with the help of an adult and is not yet potty trained. Timon babbles but does not appear to understand what is said to him. He makes limited eye contact and does not respond to his name. Stereotypical movements of his body and self-harm uptick when Timon faces unfamiliar situations but can also occur without an apparent reason. Timon explores toys with his hands but does not play with other children. He selectively enjoys contact with adults although he does not initiate it. Timon works with a pedagogue and a psychologist.
