Charlie

from Pennsylvania

Charlie's a sweet young man who appears much younger than his chronological age. Those who know him well describe him as happy, resilient, patient, and cooperative. He loves to walk around, is constantly on the move, and is usually smiling when doing so! He's very interested in exploring his world, trying new things, and is always up for a sweet snack like Cocoa Puffs or ice cream. Some of his favorite things to do include listening to music or stories or playing in water. He's very drawn to water whether he has the opportunity to splash around on a water table or swim with a life jacket. He also loves playing with exercise balls, rocking in his rocking chair, and watching animals at a nearby petting zoo. He recently started riding a large trike around the hallways of his school, and he has so much fun pedaling around! In the past he's enjoyed attending church or sitting on someone's lap and holding their hand around a quiet campfire. Charlie isn't defined by what some may see as limitations? he's making progress, but on a different scale than most youth. He's in need of a family who can nurture and support his cheerful spirit while encouraging his developing skills. A variety of family dynamics would work well for Charlie, as he gets along with other children and animals. An active family who can keep up with him and who would include him in fun family activities would be important. He's got a sibling he recently started some occasional virtual visits with that may continue in the future. Parental rights have not been terminated for Charlie; however when a permanent resource is identified, the county will enact final steps to terminate parental rights. For more information, a family can call the SWAN Helpline at 1-800-585-SWAN or have the family worker contact the recruiter, Michele Spicer, via telephone or email spicerm@diakon.org.
