Derrick from Texas

Derrick is a sweet, caring and affectionate boy who enjoys being outdoors, playing basketball, coloring, watching movies, and playing video games. He has a contagious smile that will light up any room. He is very playful and has a lot of energy. Anyone who knows him, will tell you that he is full of life. However, he sometimes needs to be reminded to slow down as he is very active. Derrick will need gentle reminders of expectations and responds well to positive reinforcement. He has his own way of communicating with others and is working hard to learn sign language. He can understand others with no issues. Derrick can be a little rough while playing with others and does not know his own strength at times. He can benefit from frequent reminders to play nice. He enjoys food and his favorite meal is chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes and green beans. Derrick does well with his daily activities and for the most part, he is self-sufficient.

Derrick's forever family will be caring and patient. His family will understand that he has developmental needs that are not yet met and will require one on one attention with Derrick. His family will be familiar with sign language and able to assist him with his verbal skills. His forever family will be loving and nurturing.
