Johnny from Texas

Johnny has recently found a new interest and talent in learning to cook. He enjoys helping and feeling like he is contributing to his surroundings. Johnny has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, but this does not prevent him from being independent and doing things on his own with some encouragement. He enjoys participating in community events and activities. Johnny sees joy and happiness in small things which other people may miss. He has a sweet nature about him and enjoys laughing. Johnny responds well if he knows he will be rewarded or praised after completing a task. Those rewards can include playing with his toys or iPad. Playing with his toys also calms him down when he feels upset. Johnny receives speech therapy and also occupational therapy. Johnny is a very loving child and just wants love in return.

Johnny's forever family will be knowledgeable of and experienced in working with children with Autism. His family will have a great deal of patience. Johnny will do best in a two-parent family who will provide him with unconditional love, clear boundaries, consistent structure, and appropriate discipline. His family will have simple rules and demonstrate they are able to adjust rules, boundaries, chores, etc. based on Johnny's abilities. Johnny is able to bond and love and his family will be patient, loving, and committed to him. His family will be able to demonstrate they understand and can apply consistent application of boundaries and structure. They will also be willing and able to locate and involve other professionals in his care and development.
