Foster-Adoption (Encyclopedia)

I am an adoptive mom thru foster. I never did "foster" care, we adopted "at-risk" placement. At risk, means, that the social workers, were pretty confident, that the children would be with us as a forever home.

I love children, and my body was unable to become pregnant. After 10 years married, we had settled ourselves to growing old without children. I opened a childcare in my home. It thrived, as I poured my heart into the children.

One day, in my travels with some of the daycare children, a stranger came up and remarked how well behaved and sweet my children were. I burst into tears. Oh how I thought I was over the poor pitiful me. This stranger would open doors that I never even knew were doors. She said, that she knew of a baby that was becoming available for adoption that very week. She knew a foster mom, that was taken care of her, but that she wasn't able to adopt. Her parting words were, "Girl, you were made to be a mom."

I began calling any and all numbers to find foster or social workers. I finally made contact with a lovely social worker, named Denise. I explained the story, kinda in a weird way. She said, yes there was a baby, but for safety was going to have to be adopted to a family out of this area. My heart plummeted, and I began to say good-bye, she said, why don't you come to my office tomorrow at 5 pm, bring your husband and we can talk. I agreed.

The next day became a roller coaster ride of paperwork, questions to delve into our hearts, and training that tore my heart.

We brought home our oldest that following November, he was four. We began the process 2 years later, and a sibling group of 3, came to our home and hearts.

There are horror stories about adopting from foster. This was a wonderful story.
