Alex is an adorable, happy little boy who will melt your heart with his smile. Everyone who meets him falls in love with his laugh and squeals. He likes touching, feeling, and experiencing everything. He loves animals and petting their fur or feathers! His favorites seem to be cats, goats, and chickens. He likes to bounce on yoga balls; you might be surprised at his preference for intense bouncing! Alex also enjoys being outside and loves to watch the leaves move on the trees.
Alex is very social and likes to be held, soothed, and touched. He loves to be around people and go places! He likes swimming, going to church, shopping, the zoo, and car rides in general. He loves when people sing to him especially ?Wheels on the Bus? or ?Happy Birthday.? Songs with motions like
?Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes? make him laugh. He is generally calm and communicates through general vocalization and facial expressions. Once you get to know Alex, you can identify his mood based on the sounds he makes. His team is working on expanding his communication through the use of the iPad and is introducing using his chair to communicate. Alex sleeps through the night and can stay awake all day if he needs to. He is able to focus even with other people around so he is ready for school next year!
Alex has medical needs and sees several specialists. The number of appointments has significantly decreased due to success in using the Ketogenic diet. He is extremely resilient although he has limited abilities to see and move. He has made enormous improvements in the last year and continues to do so. Alex needs a family who understands or is willing to learn the skills needed to care for him. He needs a committed family who is able to advocate for him and coordinate his appointments. Alex needs a home that is wheelchair accessible. He has a wonderful team of doctors who is willing to continue to work with him or help educate a new team about his medical care. Alex currently visits with his siblings. Ideally, he would remain in contact with them in some way with his forever family.
Alex is not legally free for adoption, however when a permanent resource is identified the county will enact final steps to terminate parental rights.
